As this is still an application in its test phase, sending data on DVD to import it in the application is still limited to users ready to help testing and provide feedback. Just contact me if you're brave and adventurous! For all others, it's possible to upload files, currently one at a time. Even though this will not give you all the power of the application, it shold be enough to discover how UploadForMe works and helps you upload your data to services such as YouTube, Flickr and Picasa.
Services available haven't been expanded at this time, as I want to stabilize the platform first.
I'm very happy to announce that Uploadforme.com is ready to start the first test phase with outside users! Read further if you want to have 4Gb of your data put online for free through Uploadforme, but first an overview of how this all works and why you'll want to use it.
We produce alot of digital information: we take more and more pictures during our holidays and those pictures are getting bigger as their resolution grows, producing digital videos is now easy and affordable for everyone. We also want to share this data online: pictures on Flickr, Picasa, and others, videos on youtube and others. But uploading this data is taking soooo long from home..... And that's the problem we want to solve!
Here is how it goes: first you create an account at http://www.uploaforme.com/a and create a folder to import your files into. Then you send us you data on DVD, we import it in your folder, and from there you can send your data to several services. Currently supported services are Flickr, Picasa and Youtube, and a lot more are under consideration Google Docs, Facebook, Myspace, etc...
Today the service is opening its private beta phase. If you're brave, have no fear, are ready to help squeaze some bugs and aren't deterred by a simple user interface, contact us and we'll come back to you with all needed information if we're able to welcome you as a beta user. It's still time to put your New Year's Party pictures and videos online!
The last months have been spent setting up the platform and processes to provide efficient and cost-effective services. All this hard work is starting to pay as we're nearing the beta phase, right on time for Chistmas and the New Year!
If you want to be part of the beta phase, and get some free uploads to bring your thousands of pictures taken for Christmas and New Year parties and celebration, be sure to watch this space or get in touch!
The website for the new service UploadForMe has launched. Current content is more than modest, but will be completed as our offerings are developed.
The idea of this service came from my frustration of printing my digital pictures through the internet. I quite never did it because it took sooo long top upload my pictures. Moreover, during the upload it became nearly impossible to surf on the internet. This means that for hours, my computer was hijacking my internet connection, making it impossible for anyone to get anything done online.
But I don't think the benefits end there. Even professionals could be interested by UploadForMe. If you need to upload tens of Gigs of data once a year, is it really worth the investment in a higher bandwidth connection?
I hope that this service will be helpful for lots of people. If you have remarks or suggestions, let me know!
